The Irish Medical Journal is an online peer-reviewed general medical journal. Established in 1867, it has a long and distinguished reputation both inside and outside Ireland. Its mission is to disseminate research that improves clinical practice, to act as an education forum for working doctors, and to highlight public health matters. It is published electronically with ten issues annually. There is open, free access to its content. Authors are not charged any fees for the publication of their manuscripts. Submitted papers are peer reviewed in a timely manner and a prompt decision about publication is given. When a paper is accepted, the authors are provided with support and guidance on how to make edit changes to improve the quality of the final draft. The time interval to publication is short. Published papers have also had a wide media visibility across and beyond the country.
The content categories under which material can be submitted are original research, short reports, case reports, case series, editorials, occasional pieces/research correspondence, and letters to the editor. The Journal also publishes the abstracts of scientific medical meetings in Ireland.
