The Royal Hospital Donnybrook (RHD)

Situated in the heart of Donnybrook, the RHD has an ambitious strategy to develop into the leading rehabilitation hospital for older people in the Dublin area and to integrate a Primary Care Centre on site. The RHD collaborates closely with University College Dublin, St Vincent’s University Hospital, the National Rehabiliation Hospital and other health partners in the city for the continuous improvement of quality of care to patients.  The strategy builds on a proud tradition of high quality patient care at the RHD providing a medical centre of excellence for post-acute rehabilitation care and continuing care for older people. As a Section 38 entity supported by the Health Service Executive, the Hospital has 178 beds, a 25 place Day Hospital, c.300 staff and is a designated teaching hospital.

Reporting to the Board, the CEO will lead out on the implementation of the strategy as well as on-going management of the hospital.  Supporting the management team which includes medical, nursing, allied health and finance professionals, the CEO will build and nurture the external and internal relationships for the RHD to realise its ambitions.

The ideal candidate will be a strong team player and practiced in the mobilisation of a senior team around a vision and a strategy.  He/she will have an understanding of healthcare environments, bring good general management capabilities and a track record of delivering services with a diverse range of stakeholders. In addition to good team and organisational leadership skills to deliver quality services and budgetary control, a core feature will be the ability to build and nurture relationships at all levels, both internally and externally, including State agencies, other health institutions and the voluntary sector.  Finally, as the RHD is a health care institution of long standing with a tradition in care giving, the CEO must display an empathy with the ethos of the Hospital in serving patient needs through the provision of high quality services. The RHD has the potential to deliver on its ambitious strategy; this is a significant opportunity for a suitably qualified professional to support the realisation of this potential.
